I spend a lot of time sitting with my plants, talking to them. Paying attention to my thoughts and feelings, journaling and sketching. My intention for the Soulflower Garden Notebook is to expand on my processes and thoughts, as well as the messages from the plant spirits, behind the creation of the Soulflower Plant Spirit Oracle Deck.
Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis silvatica) is on my mind as they come into their full glory here in Maine. Forget-Me-Nots have self sown themselves EVERYWHERE in my gardens in a beautiful display that makes sure I WON'T forget them!
Historically used as a symbol of remembrance, fidelity and undying love these sweet, diminutive flowers are also reminding us of our connections, not just to loved ones but to all beings, in all realms. When a loved one dies they are not gone forever, just passing into another realm that we have yet to fully comprehend. When we can truly understand and integrate this connection on a conscious level, when our awareness of our own infinite soul becomes clear, we can let go of our fears of loneliness and isolation and separation. There is great comfort that comes from holding this truth in our hearts as we all navigate love and loss in our physical world.
Forget-Me-Not reminds me that life—or reality as experienced through our human senses—is just an illusion. Our human reasoning and limited senses fool us into thinking we are only what we can physically comprehend, our attachments. This is a trap that I can easily fall into as I strive to find my place in the world, in my family even. We disconnect so readily from our heart's truth and guidance. So now, as I work in my gardens, digging in the dirt and reconnecting with the earth and my heart's intuition, I am reminded that there is so much more to be aware of. So much more that we can't see, or even comprehend, and it is so reassuring to feel connected and a part of it all.
Forget-Me-Not can be found in my Soulflower Plant Spirit Oracle Deck.
